William Chyr, Manifold Garden
Exhibition Opening: Friday, October 16, 2015, 5:30 – 8:30pm
Exhibition Hours: 12-4pm, Sat. October 17th and 18th
Manifold Garden is an exploration puzzle game that imagines a universe with a different set of physical laws. It is set in an architectural environment filled with mysteries, reminiscent of certain M.C. Escher artworks, where the game player utilizes a unique gravity manipulation mechanic to turn walls into floors. Players also manipulate perspectives as they navigate mind-boggling architecture designs. The game is designed by Chicago‐based artist and physicist William Chyr and is set to be released on Playstation 4, PC, Mac and Linux in 2016.
This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the first VGA artist residency co-run with UIC Maker Space. The residency will also include game development educational workshops for students and the public. This culminating one weekend exhibition at Mana Contemporary features prints of game environments, select video and animation, and a unique, immersive installation environment that places the viewer within a projection of the game itself.
@ Mana Contemporary, 5th Floor, 2233 South Throop Street, Chicago IL, 60608. See map.
The exhibition is supported by a generous grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts , sponsored by Arcade Brewery and is a production of Chicago Architecture Biennial Affiliate Program Partner, Chicago Artists Month.
